Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to Lapeer County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its content, or submitting a search means that you accept all terms stated here. Do not continue using the website if you disagree with them.

NO FCRA USE. Lapeer County Criminal History is privately owned and has no connection to a local, Michigan, or federal government agency. The website and its advertising partners do not offer a service for credit review, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant evaluation, or another purpose governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The material helps readers locate criminal-record resources in Lapeer County, Michigan. We are neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a privately operated reference website, independent of every government office. We do not keep official criminal records, retrieve a government record on a visitor's behalf, perform an official background check, or file a document for anyone.

Content directs readers to the Lapeer County Sheriff's Records Division, 71A District Court, 40th Circuit Court, the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. County public-record requests are subject to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq. Michigan criminal-history collection is addressed in MCL 28.242. Those laws do not turn this private website into a government custodian. Outside research tools may also appear.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use any content to stalk, threaten, or harass another person
  • Interfere with website performance or another visitor's access
  • Violate federal, Michigan, or local law through your use of the website
  • Use automated bots, scrapers, or similar collection tools on these pages
  • Make lending, insurance, housing, or hiring decisions from website content
  • Attempt to enter protected systems or obtain access without authorization

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use information found here or through a linked service to threaten, intimidate, stalk, harass, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct can be criminal. This restriction is especially important for Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry information. MCL 28.728c governs public registry information and prohibits using it to commit a crime or engage in listed misconduct. Registry access supports public safety awareness, not vigilante acts, employment blacklisting, or housing discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Our advertising partners and this website do not provide tools designed to evaluate applicants for work or housing, set insurance rates, or assess credit. You agree that neither website information nor linked-tool data will be used to:

  • Assess credit or determine an insurance premium
  • Screen a prospective renter or housing applicant
  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other activity controlled by the FCRA

A check needed for one of those purposes must be obtained through the proper official process or a screening company that complies with the FCRA. The Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center can explain Michigan's official criminal-history products.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content is not legal advice. General explanations about Lapeer County criminal records cannot determine how a charge, conviction, warrant, or Michigan set-aside rule applies to a particular situation. Consult a lawyer licensed in Michigan for legal advice.

6. No Warranties

All website material is offered "as is." We make no promise that:

  • An outside search partner's result is complete or correct
  • Every page is free from an error, defect, or security weakness
  • The website will remain available without disruption
  • Information is complete, accurate, or current at a particular time

Criminal records can change as charges are filed or dismissed and records are restricted or set aside. Information gaps are unavoidable. No website statement should be treated as an official declaration by a Lapeer County court, the Sheriff, Michigan State Police, or another government office.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may point to the Sheriff's Office, MiCOURT, Michigan agencies, legal-aid organizations, or independent search services. Following a link takes you to a service outside our control. We are not responsible for its availability, charges, privacy practices, or content. Read the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Lapeer County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. You may not reproduce, alter, distribute, or create derivative material from that content without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for damages arising from website use, including action taken in reliance on content found here or through an outside service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from a claim, demand, or legal proceeding caused by your website use or violation of these terms, including associated costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Michigan law governs these terms, including applicable provisions of the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 et seq. A legal dispute related to website use must be brought in a court located in Michigan.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms at any time. A revision becomes effective when the changed terms are posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

We may suspend, restrict, or end access to the website at any time and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is found invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language will be adjusted only to the extent needed for enforceability.

15. Questions

Questions about these terms may be submitted through the Contact page.
